Sniffles

Conner has his first cold. :( Yesterday I noticed he was sneezing a lot, but I didn't think much of it because he sneezes quite frequently anyways. Then I noticed he was snoring when he was napping. By last night, he was coughing and sniffling...so sad. It took me 3 hours to put him to bed last night because he was quite the little fussy-pants. He kept flailing his hands all over the place and then he would knock the bottle out of my hands and then scream because I wasn't feeding him! I actually had to laugh because it was so dramatic. After I finally got him to bed, he still slept pretty good...except for one little incident...

When we moved him into his bedroom a few weeks ago, we installed one of those monitors with the motion sensor pad that you put underneath their mattress that detects their breathing. It's supposed to help prevent SIDS. At first, I contemplated whether or not we should return it because the chances of something bad happening were so slim and it was kind of expensive. But then I decided that of all the frilly things that people spend money on for babies, this seemed more important. At 4:30 this morning, I was sure glad that we made the choice to keep it, because Conner stopped breathing for 20 seconds and it went off. So we rushed into his room and picked him up and shook him until he woke up and started breathing again. Now, it's hard to say whether he would have eventually come to and started breathing again on his own, or whether the monitor actually saved his life, but I shutter to think of what could have happened without it.

(I've had a lot of people ask me what the name of the monitor I have is, so here is the link...I got it at Babies R Us... http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2267258&cp=&sr=1&f=Taxonomy%2FTRUS%2F2255957&origkw=monitor&kw=monitor&parentPage=search)
