Tolerance

I think we would all agree that a person is right or left-handed by nature, right? I mean, somebody doesn't choose to be left-handed; they are born that way and it's not something that can or should be altered, correct?

I overheard a conversation recently about a time not so long ago when left-handed children would receive lashes in school if they tried to write with their left hand. It was believed that the "normal" and "natural" way to write was with your right hand and that these children should be forced to learn how to write the 'correct' way.

Hmm.

I wonder if the day will ever come when people understand that a person does not choose to be gay. They are born that way and we should not try to force them to change their orientation just because it is not perceived to be the "normal" or "natural" way.

Go girl. Now that Obama come into the picture, the human rights groups in the USA are really gaining momentum. We're behind a lot of the world in that regard, too. (Australia has very advanced gay/domestic partnership rights here) I'm thankful, because Brian and I have the same rights as any married couple because we are domestic partners! :)
